Geometric and Non-Objective Abstraction

Paintings made of pure shape, line and color, with no recognisable objects, from the first abstract compositions of the early twentieth century to the grids of De Stijl and the squares of Suprematism. A work belongs here when the cited article calls the painting abstract, geometric or Suprematist, or titles it as a composition. It excludes gestural Abstract Expressionism and Surrealist paintings. The group follows the language of the cited article and not the later reputation of the painter.
