Matisse Paintings

Paintings by Henri Matisse, the French artist and leader of Fauvism, who used flat planes of saturated colour, simplified line and decorative pattern to build a picture. The group includes the early blue nude painted after a visit to Algeria, the wall-size painting of five figures making music and the interior in which a table and wall were turned into a single field of red. The paintings are in the Baltimore Museum of Art and in Russian and French collections.
