Sori Yanagi (1915 to 2011) was a Japanese industrial designer who played a central role in the development of Japanese modern design from the postwar years through the country's high growth economic period. He is regarded both as a leading figure of distinctly Japanese modern design and as a committed modernist who merged simplicity and practicality with elements of traditional Japanese craft.
