Comics

Two-Dimensional and Graphic Arts

Comics is a medium that expresses ideas through images, usually combined with text, most often arranged as a sequence of panels. Devices such as speech balloons, captions and onomatopoeia carry dialogue, narration and sound effects. Cartooning and other illustration are its most common image-making methods, and its output ranges from comic strips and gag cartoons to comic books, graphic novels and webcomics; theorists and historians do not agree on a single definition, some stressing the combination of image and text, others sequence, and others mass reproduction or recurring characters.
