The Berlin Painter is the conventional name given to an Attic Greek vase painter active about 490 to the 460s BC, widely regarded as among the most talented of his time. No signature appears on any of his attributed works, and over 400 vases and fragments are attributed to him. The Metropolitan Museum of Art holds a terracotta hydria of the kalpis form from about 500 BCE, acquired through the Rogers Fund in 1910, which it credits to him. The atlas records him as the named painter of that water jar, listed in the divinity atlas among its mythological images.
