Severo Calzetta da Ravenna

Sculptors

Severo Calzetta da Ravenna was an Italian sculptor of the High Renaissance and Mannerism who worked in Padua, Ferrara and Ravenna, and who is recorded as active from 1496, dying before 1543. He specialized in small bronzes and made functional objects such as inkwells and candlesticks, with pagan subjects such as dragons and satyrs prominent among them. The Metropolitan Museum of Art holds a mid sixteenth century bronze inkwell, Atlas Supporting a Vessel, attributed to him, and the atlas records him as its maker for the divinity atlas, which lists that bronze among its mythological images.
