Expressionist and Soviet Montage Directors

Film directors of two silent era movements, German Expressionism, with its distorted sets, shadows and heightened emotion, and Soviet montage, which built meaning by the cutting together of shots. A director belongs here when the cited article names Expressionism or montage in connection with the person. It excludes directors of the postwar New Wave and New Hollywood, who sit in their own group, and directors of the sound studio era.
