Academic Painters

Painters of nineteenth century academic art, the style taught in the official art academies, known for polished finish, historical and classical subjects and idealized figures, sometimes joined with Realism or Orientalism. A painter belongs here when the cited article calls the painter academic or names academic art or Academicism. It excludes the Romantic painters and the Impressionists who rebelled against it. Its painters trained in academies such as the French Academy, exhibited at official salons and painted large canvases with historical, mythological and Orientalist subjects, and a painter is placed here where the cited article or its infobox names the academic style.
