Documentary Photographers

Photographers who record real people, places and events as evidence, from the social documentary tradition of the Great Depression to photojournalism and later work on labor and migration. A photographer belongs here when the cited article calls the person a documentary photographer or names documentary as the movement. It excludes street photographers and the Surrealist photographers, who have their own groups. Some began as press or government photographers and became known for single images that stood for a whole period, so a photographer is placed here by the description the cited article gives, not by the subject of one picture.
