Islamic Calligraphers

Calligraphers of the Islamic world who shaped and refined the formal scripts of Arabic writing, including Naskh and Thuluth, across the Abbasid, Persian and Ottoman courts. A calligrapher belongs here when the cited article calls the person an Arabic, Persian or Ottoman calligrapher. It excludes East Asian calligraphers, who sit in their own group, and printmakers of the Western tradition. Their work is preserved in Quran manuscripts, chancery documents and inscriptions, and later calligraphers learned their scripts from the proportions and models these masters set down, so membership follows the tradition the article names.
