Modernist and Contemporary Composers

Composers of the twentieth century and after who broke with tonal Romantic practice, including Modernist, atonal, avant-garde and contemporary classical music. A composer belongs here when the cited article calls the person a modernist or avant-garde composer, or describes contemporary classical music. It excludes Romantic and Impressionist composers. Their music includes atonal and twelve-tone works, new uses of rhythm and instruments, chance and electronic methods, and a composer is placed here by the description the cited article gives, not by whether later listeners call the sound modern.
