The steel-framed structure is about 100 meters long, with 15-meter glass windows running along both sides, and is considered the first attempt to bring restrained modern design principles to industrial architecture. Its bold departure from the ornamented factory buildings of its time had a lasting impact on the development of architecture as a whole.
