Ballets choreographed by George Balanchine, the Russian-born choreographer who founded the New York City Ballet and the School of American Ballet. His plotless ballets, danced to the music of Tchaikovsky, Bizet, Stravinsky and others, set the music first and made the lines and patterns of the dancers themselves the subject of the work. The group includes Serenade, Symphony in C and Agon. Many of the ballets are danced without a story, in plain costume against a bare stage.
