Twentieth-Century Ballerinas

Ballerinas of the twentieth century, among them prima ballerinas who led national ballet companies and set the standard for classical roles in the repertory on the great stages of Europe and the Americas. The two ballerinas, the English dancer who spent her career with the company now called the Royal Ballet and the Cuban dancer who founded the national ballet of her country, were both known for the classical roles of Giselle and Swan Lake.
