Ginger Rogers, born Virginia Katherine McMath, was an American actress, dancer and singer of the Golden Age of Hollywood who lived from 1911 to 1995. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress for Kitty Foyle in 1940 and starred through the 1930s in a celebrated series of RKO musicals opposite Fred Astaire; their nine films together, including The Gay Divorcee, Top Hat and Swing Time, are credited with revolutionizing the film musical genre, and Rogers went on to a long career on stage, radio and television, appearing in 73 films in all.
