Claire Zeisler was an American fiber artist who lived from 1903 to 1991, known for large freestanding sculptural works built from knotted, wrapped and braided fiber, moving weaving off the loom and away from the wall entirely into floor-based sculptural form. Based in Chicago, she was one of the artists whose work helped establish fiber as a sculptural medium during the fiber art movement of the 1960s and 1970s.
