Rosemarie Trockel is a German conceptual artist born in 1952 in Schwerte, North Rhine-Westphalia. From 1985 she became known for large works made on industrial knitting machines, producing knitted pictures that carried imagery such as the Playboy bunny logo and the hammer and sickle, work that criticises other artists and styles including minimal art. Beyond textile work she has produced drawings, paintings, sculpture, video and installation, including the 1994 Frankfurter Engel monument. She holds a professorship at the Kunstakademie Dusseldorf and received the Wolf Prize in Arts in 2011.
