Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror is a 1922 silent German Expressionist horror film directed by F. W. Murnau from a screenplay by Henrik Galeen, starring Max Schreck as the vampire Count Orlok. Produced by Prana Film as an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker's novel Dracula, with character names and plot details altered, it prompted a copyright lawsuit from Stoker's widow Florence that led to a court order requiring all copies to be destroyed. Several prints nonetheless survived, and the film went on to be recognized as an influential masterpiece of both German Expressionist cinema and the horror genre; it entered the public domain worldwide in 2019.
