Fight with Cudgels

Fight with Cudgels, recorded in old inventories as The Strangers or Cowherds, is the name later given by art historians to a painting by the Spanish artist Francisco Goya, now held in the Museo del Prado in Madrid. It is one of Goya's Black Paintings, a series he painted directly onto the walls of his house sometime between 1820 and 1823; Goya himself did not name the paintings in this series. The work depicts two men fighting each other with cudgels while they appear to be trapped knee deep in a quagmire of mud or sand.
