Sommarnöje

Sommarnöje is a watercolor painted by the Swedish artist Anders Zorn in 1886 at Dalarö, near Stockholm. It depicts Zorn's wife Emma Zorn standing in a white dress and hat on the edge of a wooden pier, waiting as their friend Carl Gustav Dahlström approaches in a rowing boat across a glassy stretch of water. The title translates roughly as Summer Delight, and the work reflects the French Impressionism Zorn absorbed during his years in Paris, rendered in a restrained Scandinavian palette. A smaller preparatory sketch for the composition is held by the Zorn Museum in Mora. The finished painting later sold at auction for a record price among Swedish paintings.
