Young Ladies Beside the Seine (Summer) is an oil on canvas painting made between late 1856 and early 1857 by the French Realist painter Gustave Courbet, now held in the Petit Palais in Paris. It measures 174 by 206 centimeters and shows two fashionably dressed women resting in the grass at the river's edge, one lying on her stomach in a white patterned dress, the other reclining in a red dress while holding flowers. The picture records an ordinary summer leisure scene of city women cooling off by the Seine, rendered with the frank, unidealized realism characteristic of Courbet's work.
