The Just Judges is the lower left panel of the Ghent Altarpiece, painted around 1430 to 1432 by Hubert and Jan van Eyck, showing a procession of riders including portraits of contemporary figures such as Duke Philip the Good and possibly the two artists themselves. The panel was stolen from Saint Bavo Cathedral in Ghent on the night of April 10, 1934, and never recovered; it is now believed to have been destroyed. A replacement panel was painted in 1945 by Jef Van der Veken, who based it on a sixteenth century copy and reportedly gave one horseman the features of King Leopold III.
