Titian

Titian was an Italian Renaissance painter and the leading master of the Venetian school, celebrated for a command of color and painterly technique that shaped Western painting for generations after him. Working across portraiture, landscape, and mythological and religious subjects with equal facility, he produced works such as Bacchus and Ariadne, the Venus of Urbino, and the Assumption of the Virgin that combined monumental composition with an increasingly free, expressive handling of paint. By the late sixteenth century his influence was so widely acknowledged that the art theorist Giovanni Paolo Lomazzo described him as the sun amidst small stars, not only among Italian painters but among all the painters of the world.
