The Apotheosis of War is an 1871 oil painting by the Russian war artist Vasily Vereshchagin, part of his Turkestan Series. It depicts a pile of skulls outside the walls of a city in Central Asia, and Vereshchagin dedicated the completed work to all great conquerors, past, present and to come.
