Jacob's Ladder (Moskos)

Jacob''s Ladder is a tempera painting by the Greek painter Elias Moskos, who was born on Crete and was active on the Ionian islands of Zakynthos and Kefalonia from the 1650s onward. Moskos worked in a style that combined the Cretan School and the Heptanese School of icon painting, drawing on engravings from across Europe, including Flemish prints, over an artistic career that ran from 1629 to 1687. Most of the roughly fifty two surviving paintings attributed to him, including this one, remain in Greece and Italy.
