Susanna and the Elders (Rubens)

Susanna and the Elders is a painting by the Flemish artist Peter Paul Rubens, made in 1607 during his second stay in Rome. It shows the biblical story of Susanna, falsely accused by two elders after she refused their advances while bathing, and is Rubens' earliest treatment of a subject he returned to several times in his career, including later versions in Madrid and Munich. The painting has belonged to the Galleria Borghese in Rome since at least the mid-17th century.
