A tempera-on-wood Eastern Orthodox icon by the Cretan School painter Georgios Klontzas, made around 1580 to 1608 and also known as The Second Coming, now held by the Hellenic Institute of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Studies in Venice. It depicts Christ's Second Coming and the Last Judgment, showing Jesus as judge surrounded by apostles and angels and Old Testament figures, with Hell also depicted. Klontzas, a Cretan painter active in the second half of the sixteenth century and a contemporary of the young El Greco, produced one of the most influential versions of this subject; later painters including Leos Moskos and Francheskos Kavertzas made comparable compositions based on his framework.
