The Sacrament of the Last Supper is a 1955 oil on canvas painting by Salvador Dali, now in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. Dali completed the large religious canvas, which depicts Christ's Last Supper, after nine months of work during the period he called his Nuclear Mysticism phase, when a renewed devotion to Roman Catholicism combined with his fascination with atomic physics. The collector and banker Chester Dale had encouraged Dali toward further religious subjects after donating an earlier Dali religious painting to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Dale later gave this canvas to the National Gallery, saying the picture was too important to keep for a few; it remains one of the gallery's most visited paintings.
