Annibale Carracci (1560-1609) was an Italian painter from Bologna regarded as one of the founders of a major strand of the Baroque style. He is best known for his influential frescoes in the Palazzo Farnese in Rome, which shaped the course of Baroque fresco painting for decades afterward. His work combined the classical monumentality of Florentine painting with the dynamism and color of the Venetian tradition, and he was also an important teacher.
