Bernardo Cavallino (1616-1656) was an Italian painter and draughtsman regarded as one of the most original artists active in Naples in the first half of the 17th century. His paintings, influenced by Anthony van Dyck, combine tenebrism with a theatrical sweetness that art historians place between the styles of Caravaggio and Bartolome Esteban Murillo.
