Francesco Pesellino

Francesco Pesellino, also known as Francesco di Stefano, was an Italian Renaissance painter active in Florence from around 1422 until his death from plague in 1457. Orphaned by his painter father at a young age, he trained under his maternal grandfather, the painter Giuliano Pesello, from whose name his nickname derived, and later formed working partnerships with Zanobi Strozzi and Fra Filippo Lippi. He became known for small, highly finished devotional panels and secular works for domestic furniture, and art historians have described his style as anticipating later Florentine painters such as Andrea del Verrocchio and the Pollaiuolo brothers.
