Giovanni Bellini

Giovanni Bellini was an Italian Renaissance painter who lived from about 1430 to 1516 and was probably the best known of the Bellini family of Venetian painters, having been raised in the household of Jacopo Bellini. He is considered to have revolutionized Venetian painting by moving it toward a more sensuous and coloristic style, using clear, slow-drying oil paints to create deep, rich tints and detailed shadings. His sumptuous coloring and fluent, atmospheric landscapes had a great effect on the Venetian painting school, especially on his pupils Giorgione and Titian.
