Hugo van der Goes

Hugo van der Goes was a Flemish painter and one of the most significant and original Early Netherlandish painters of the late fifteenth century, noted for his altarpieces and portraits. He introduced important innovations through his monumental style, distinctive use of color and individual manner of portraiture. His masterpiece, the Portinari Triptych, arrived in Florence in 1483 and played a role in shaping the development of realism and the use of color in Italian Renaissance art.
