James Gillick

James Gillick is a British figurative painter, born in Norfolk in 1972 and based in Louth, Lincolnshire, who works in oil on canvas and in drawing. His subjects range across still life, game pieces, portraiture and equestrian scenes, painted with techniques and handmade, ground pigment materials modeled on seventeenth-century Flemish, Dutch and Spanish masters. He has also worked on church restoration and gilding projects, and his portrait commissions include Margaret Thatcher for the University of Buckingham in 1998 and Pope John Paul II for the Bishop of Nottingham in 2005. His paintings have been shown regularly at London galleries and major art fairs since 2000.
