José Campeche y Jordán (December 23, 1751 to November 7, 1809) is the first known Puerto Rican visual artist and is considered by art critics one of the best Rococo artists in the Americas. He favored colors that referenced the landscape of Puerto Rico as well as the island's social and political elite, whom he frequently painted.
