Masaccio

Masaccio was a Florentine painter who lived from 1401 to 1428 and is regarded as the first great Italian painter of the Quattrocento period of the Renaissance. He was among the first artists to use linear perspective and the vanishing point in painting, and he moved decisively away from the ornamental International Gothic style toward a more naturalistic mode using perspective and chiaroscuro. He died at twenty-six, but his brief career had a profound influence on later Renaissance painters.
