Rosa Bonheur

Rosa Bonheur was a French painter, sculptor and animalier who lived from 1822 to 1899 and was widely considered the most famous female painter of the nineteenth century. Her paintings include Ploughing in the Nivernais, first exhibited at the Paris Salon of 1849, and The Horse Fair, exhibited at the Salon of 1853 and now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. She specialized in depicting animals with careful anatomical observation, and she also made sculptures in a realist style.
