Torii Kiyonaga

Torii Kiyonaga (1752 to 1815), born Sekiguchi Shinsuke, was a Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock print master who adopted the Torii family name as his professional identity. He is considered one of the great masters of the full color nishiki-e print and of bijin-ga, or pictures of beautiful women, his work rivaling that of the earlier master Harunobu. He became head of the Torii school in 1787 after his adoptive father's death, reached his artistic peak in the 1780s, and continued producing prints until his final known work of 1813, two years before his death.
