Italian engravers of the Renaissance and Mannerist period, painters and map makers who cut copper plates, reproduced the works of the great masters and spread Italian compositions across Europe. The group includes a Florentine engraver of maps and prints and a Bolognese painter and printmaker who made hundreds of prints after Raphael, Giulio Romano and other masters of the sixteenth century. Their prints are collected today as records of lost paintings and as works of line, and they stand beside the engravers of Germany and the Netherlands who worked at the same time.
