Some scholars have attributed the work to Leonardo da Vinci, though the attribution and the work's authenticity have been disputed. Supporters of the Leonardo attribution have proposed that the sitter is Bianca Giovanna Sforza, an illegitimate daughter of Ludovico Sforza.
