Don Quixote (Picasso)

Don Quixote is a 1955 ink sketch by the Spanish artist Pablo Picasso depicting the title character of Miguel de Cervantes novel Don Quixote alongside his companion Sancho Panza, drawn beneath a blazing sun and a pair of windmills. Made rapidly on August 10, 1955, in a loose, gestural style very different from the Blue, Rose and Cubist periods for which Picasso is best known, the drawing was published that August in the French weekly magazine Les Lettres Francaises to mark the 350th anniversary of the novel first publication. The image has since become one of the most widely reproduced and recognizable depictions of Don Quixote in the world.
