Studies of the Fetus in the Womb are two coloured, annotated sketches made by Leonardo da Vinci around 1511, correctly depicting the human fetus in its proper position inside a dissected uterus. The drawings show a single-chambered uterus, contradicting a then-common theory that a multi-chambered uterus separated twin fetuses into distinct compartments, and they also correctly render the uterine artery and the vascular system of the cervix and vagina.
