The Bosses of the Senate

The Bosses of the Senate is a political cartoon by the American illustrator Joseph Keppler, published in Puck magazine on January 23, 1889. It depicts monopolists as obese figures with bodies made of money bags, towering over the senators of the United States Senate to portray corporate control of government during the Gilded Age. The cartoon is remembered as an early work of antitrust propaganda that contributed to the climate leading to the Sherman Antitrust Act, and remains a frequently reproduced image in textbooks and studies of the United States Congress.
