African Sculptors

Sculptors of Africa and its modern art, from the first generation of artists who gained international recognition in the twentieth century to later artists who work in steel, metal scrap and mixed media, and who draw on African forms, materials and histories. The group covers artists from Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa, who work in bronze, wood, aluminum bottle tops and welded steel, and whose public commissions and gallery shows have made African sculpture part of world contemporary art.
