Sculptural and Object Arts

Forms whose finished work is a three-dimensional object or environment: sculpture, ceramics, metalwork, mosaic, stained glass, tapestry and textile arts, plus the twentieth-century object forms of assemblage and installation art and the body-based form of performance art, which shares this group's object and space orientation rather than the scripted-narrative orientation of Theatre. Belongs here: a form whose product or event occupies real three-dimensional space rather than a flat surface. Does not belong here: architecture, which is its own group given this atlas's emphasis on it, or a two-dimensional form such as drawing or painting.
