Richard Avedon

Richard Avedon was an American fashion and portrait photographer who lived from 1923 to 2004 and worked for Harper's Bazaar, Vogue and Elle, specializing in capturing movement in fashion, theater and dance photography. His major projects include Nothing Personal, a 1964 book made with James Baldwin documenting the civil rights movement, and In the American West, a five-year project photographing working-class subjects, alongside an extensive portrait series of figures such as Marilyn Monroe, the Beatles and Andy Warhol. The New York Times credited his photographs with helping define America's image of style, beauty and culture for half a century.
