Unique Forms of Continuity in Space

Sculptural Works

Unique Forms of Continuity in Space is a bronze sculpture created in 1913 by the Italian Futurist artist Umberto Boccioni, existing today in several posthumous bronze casts made from Boccioni's original plaster after his early death in 1916. It depicts a striding human figure whose body has been dissolved into dynamic, flame-like abstracted forms intended to express speed, force and motion moving through space, embodying the Futurist movement's fascination with modernity, velocity and the machine age. Regarded as the single most celebrated sculpture produced by the Futurist movement, its image was later used on the Italian design of the twenty-cent euro coin.
