Knife Angel

Knife Angel, formally titled the National Monument Against Violence and Aggression, is a contemporary sculpture completed in 2018 by the artist Alfie Bradley working with the British Ironworks Centre in Oswestry, England. Standing about 27 feet tall, it is built from roughly 100,000 knives, blades, swords and other weapons surrendered through amnesties or seized by all 43 police forces of the United Kingdom, which were disinfected and blunted before being welded onto a steel frame; some of the knives still bear evidence of the violent crimes in which they were used. The sculpture, which cost about 500,000 pounds to produce, was created to highlight knife crime in the United Kingdom and to educate young people about the harm violent behavior causes their communities. Rather than remaining in a single location, it has toured extensively across the United Kingdom, appearing in cities including Newark-on-Trent and Plymouth as part of an ongoing nationwide anti-violence tour.
