Le Reve, meaning The Dream, is a 1932 oil on canvas painting by Pablo Picasso, made when the artist was fifty years old, portraying his twenty-two-year-old mistress Marie-Thérèse Walter. It is said to have been painted in a single afternoon, on 24 January 1932, and belongs to Picasso's period of distorted depictions, with oversimplified outlines and contrasting colors recalling early cubism. Critics have repeatedly noted the painting's erotic content, pointing out that Picasso incorporated an image resembling an erect penis into the upturned face of his model. On 26 March 2013 the painting was sold in a private sale for 155 million dollars, making it one of the most expensive paintings ever sold.
