Arnold Schoenberg

Composers

Arnold Schoenberg was an Austrian-American composer who lived from 1874 to 1951, initially writing late-Romantic works before developing atonal composition around 1908 and then, in the early 1920s, the twelve-tone technique, a method of composing that gives equal importance to all twelve notes of the chromatic scale, one of the most influential compositional innovations of the twentieth century. He led the Second Viennese School alongside his students Alban Berg and Anton Webern, and emigrated to the United States in 1933 after the rise of the Nazi regime, later teaching at UCLA.
